"The Trustees of Birch Community Centre have agreed, in line with advice from Public Health England, that we will close at the end of After School Club tomorrow evening until further notice.

The health of our volunteers, staff and our community is very important and we sincerely hope we can open as soon as possible. Keep safe."

Birch Community centre is a registered charity No,1151781.

Established for over 30 years  ago to help improve the leisure, recreation and education opportunities available in the neighbourhood.

A grant from Manchester City Council  helps towards the running of the centre.

For Children

During school term-time we host a number of children's projects: pre-school playgroup, parents & toddlers, After School Club, Scouts.

During school holidays we try to offer care schemes and play schemes.

For Adults

During school term-times we aim to host a wide choice of activities for recreation and leisure. These activities are mainly on weekday evenings but there are occasionally weekend and daytime choices.

The Birch Community Centre and Birch Playgroup is taking every precaution to minimise health impacts of COVID-19 by following the official government advice to keep visitors, volunteers, members and staff as safe as possible.
Public Health England's current advice is to keep the Centre open as usual and we hope you will continue to attend events and enjoy the Centre during this period of uncertainty.  However, in the event of any staff contracting the virus, we may need to close at short notice, which may be just for a day or for a longer period of time.  You will be notified by telephone in the event of any closure, and updates on closures will appear on our website, Facebook page and noticeboards.
We have taken a number of sensible measures to reduce the risk of infection.  In addition to our usual daily cleaning regime, preventative measures have been introduced to mitigate the spread of the virus.  High impact area, such as door handles, stair rails, chairs, tables etc. are being wiped clean more regularly. Antibacterial soap and paper hand towels are available in the toilets and all visitors to the building are encouraged to wash their hands (for a minimum of 20 seconds) when they arrive, lids of swing bins have been fixed open or removed for the same reason.  The kitchen’s hygiene regime is being maintained to its usual high standard. Coronavirus advice posters have also been pinned to the notice board providing updated guidelines.
The Centre trusts that all users follow the official advice to self-isolate (for seven days) if they are at a higher risk of having contracted the virus and follow the guidelines to regularly wash your hands.  We will not be asking for your recent movements, but if you have travelled from a specific area, as outlined by the Chief Medical Officer, you should avoid visiting the Centre.  If you have contracted COVID-19 and visited the Centre in the last 14 days, please contact the Centre as a matter of urgency so that we may inform the PHE local Health Protection Team to discuss the case.  Staff have been instructed that they are not to come to the Centre if they feel unwell, although again, this is usual practice to keep themselves and their colleagues in good health.  Please can I ask you all to follow the same approach.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the matter further, please email or call the Centre.  In the event the Centre does close in the future and you would like to get in touch the following email addresses are available for contact:
